P90X is, without a doubt, the hardest workout program I have ever done. Each day is filled with new challenges, trials, and goals designed to get you into the best shape of your life. It’s a lot of really hard work, but it is definitely worth it.
The program
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be giving you detailed information about each aspect of the program that seemed to dominate the past 90 days of my life, but here I hope to at least provide you with an accurate overview of its content and philosophy.
P90X claims to be “Extreme Home Fitness,” and it’s not kidding. In the program, you will do more pullups, pushups, ab work, leg exercises, and stretching than you could ever imagine.
The workouts
P90X comes with a set of 12 DVD workouts. If you’re like me, you swore you would never do an at-home DVD workout program, but this is not like other programs. All of the workouts can be completed in your living room, but are just as hard as any other workout you could choose to do. The individual workouts are as follows:
Every single one of these workouts is amazing as a stand alone routine, but putting them all together in the prescribed order gives you a whole body workout day after day.
The equipment
In order to complete all the exercises in the program, you need a pull-up bar, a set of dumbells or stretch bands, a yoga mat and block, and a whole lot of motivation. The best part about the program is the fact that you don’t need to spend the time going to a gym to get in great shape. I’m a pretty busy person, and, quite often, there just isn’t enough time to get in a full workout and commute to complete it.
The diet
As with any good workout regimen, you can’t get the results you are looking for without eating a good, healthy diet. And P90X has this part down. You can look on site after site and at review after review, and they will tell you that the eating plan in this program isn’t a diet; you eat far too much food for that.
So, if food quantity isn’t an issue here, what is? Obviously, it all comes down to food quality. Ice cream is out. Candy bars aren’t going to cut it. Soda just has too many calories. And, as Tony says, you have to stay away from the Krisy Kreams!
I was really impressed with the diet, as it really is all about a change in lifestyle rather than a starve yourself and fail type of scenario.
Bring It!
The philosophy of the program is that you have to “bring it.” You have to be ready, every day, to push yourself to your limits, even beyond your limits. Like anything worthwhile in life, it’s not easy, but you won’t regret it if you give it a try.

I second that.
